Hi, I'm a 16 year old boy, and I've really wanted to join a group, such as yourself. I was wondering, would I be able to fight as I'm under 18?
Also do you know any websites or shops what do good equipment? I live in Brighton, so nothing hundreds of miles away please lol.

Cheers :)

Hi Jakzer,
I'm probably your nearest member here as I'm the Brighton side of Worthing!
MCS has a few rules which may hamper your interest in learning Medieval Combat at the moment.
Firstly under 18's can only be members if accompanied by a close reletive who is over 18 and can be responsible for you. Archery training and participation in shows can be done at any age though a proficency test is required for shows. Combat training can be done for 16 and overs however combatant's at shows need to be 18. Again proficency needs to be demonstrated beforehand. This does give you a couple of years to train up your muscle memory to withstand the rigours of combat!
Swinging a sword to strike a person at a particular point on their body is hard! To pull the blow so you don't actually hurt them is harder still but does mean we can enjoy our hobby weekend after weekend during the summer season!
There are lots of people who can help here and a lot of information in the forum to help you get a good grounding in medieval combat and supplies you may need.

hello Jakzer,
i am on of the young ones of the mcs (age 19) thats does do combat. Tony is correct what he says about the age to fight at shows. but do not be dis heartened by this there are lost of other things that you can do as said the archery and the dancing. now i know that at a teenage age dancing sounds lame but it is actually alot of fun if i do say so myself. the archery is also alot of fun to gain the control and accuracy from using longbows. what i have learn t from this society is that it is like a family and has always made new members feel welcome. best thing to do is contact Samantha our membership lady and she can sort out with you to come down to meet us all. i wish you the best of luck and hope to see you at some point.

hello Jakzer,

My advise to you being a new member of the MCS (only been with them a year).
Is DON'T BUY ANYTHING until you visit us, there are always things you can borrow or loan to have a go and then decide what you want to do. Most of the things you need we get at Medieval fairs etc, they are not sold in shops or we make them ourselves, there are plenty of people to give you help and advise to save you money buying or getting the wrong things.
